Holy shit. I have so many feelings. I have to start this review with a massive trigger warning. This novel deals with pedophilia and rape. Do not read this novel of these things trigger you.
I had to take several listening breaks during this audiobook. Several passages were challenging to listen to—several moments where I was so disgusted that I could not continue.
This story will rip your heart out, for so many reasons. This novel will make you think about situations in a completely different way. Lucinda Berry can tell a story in such a uniquely powerful way, you will literally have to remind yourself to breathe.
This was emotional. So so many reasons. I enjoyed that Berry discussed all sides of the situation, from societies viewpoints to the mother who just loves her child so much more than his mistakes.
I did not see the twist in this one. Wow. I feel like I have been kicked in the guy and dropped from 100 feet. Adrianne was such a complex character. She made me angry, made me sad, and in the end she broke my heart.
There are so many elements to this story. A taboo topic, and one the elicits a strong reaction at the mere mention of it. This was a different side to the argument, and it has left me speechless. Damn you, Lucinda Berry!
