J.S. Ellis is the author of psychological thrillers and suspense and published her debut psychological thriller in 2019, which was an instant success and received great praise from readers. She writes stories about obsession and betrayal. When she’s not putting her characters in uncomfortable, difficult positions, J.S. Ellis likes to relax with her husband and their fur baby, Eloise. They live on the sunny island of Malta.

She killed her family. Now she’s run away with what’s left of his…

As the head nurse at a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, James Hall had perfected keeping his work and home life separate. The last thing he wants is for someone he cares about becoming ensnared in the web of any of his patients, especially the notorious Evelyne Young who slaughtered her parents and brother three short years ago.

Then, his twenty-one-year-old son, Maurice, moves back home.
James’ ultimate nightmare comes true when Evelyne escapes from the ward, and his twenty-one-year-old son ends up on the run with her. Fearing for Maurice’s life, James scrambles to find him by investigating Evelyne’s past.
Did she truly just snap the night she murdered her family, or is her mysterious ex-fiancé hiding something?

James faces more questions than answers, and time is running out.

By uncovering the truth of Evelyne’s bloody past, can he figure out where she and Maurice are hiding in time to stop his son become her next victim?

“But some mistakes have disastrous consequences.”

After losing his wife, his son became his focus. He would do anything to keep his son happy, healthy, and alive. Maurice feels lost; his mother dying has thrown him into a tailspin. His dad is trying to give him space, but it isn’t until he meets her that he feels alive again. What would a parent do to protect their child?

This was intense! Told from a father’s perspective, which added an interesting spin to this tale, we witness several people descend into the blankness.

The way the characters were written in this book was so clever. I don’t think we were meant to like anyone, but we were meant to feel empathy towards everyone. The way the reader is manipulated throughout this book is clever.

This book moved fast, and the plot was thick. So much chaos and anger, confusion, and love were mixed between these pages. I love the way J.S. Ellis tells a story. She has the incredible ability to curate scenes that feel authentic.

This is the perfect book if you are looking for a fast-paced, quick read.
