I purchased this audiobook on Amazon, and I leave my review voluntarily.
Miranda Rijks lives in Sussex, England with her husband and black Labradors. When she is not writing, she’s dreaming about living in a chalet on a Swiss mountain, obsessively knitting and painting on her iPad. Before becoming a fiction writer, Miranda helped newbie entrepreneurs turn their ideas into successful businesses. In 2015, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, and everything changed.

It hasn’t always been like this.
Nine years ago, Stephanie’s flatmate Alison vanished, presumed murdered. It was a horrible time, and Stephanie tries hard not to think about it.
But when a TV researcher working on a true crime series wants to interview her about the case, Stephanie is forced to confront the past and recognise that she has a deep need to answer one burning question – what happened to Alison?
It soon becomes clear that someone doesn’t want her digging for the truth and is willing to do anything to conceal a shocking web of lies. As her perfect life unravels, Stephanie realises that by opening a door into the past she has woken a sleeping monster. And now her own life is on the line…
“It appears that in death, we are all the same.”
Stephanie thinks her life is pretty good. After a horrific accident left her with metal in her leg, her college flatmate went missing, and a friend was arrested for her murder, her life has finally settled down. Her husband, Oliver, is a professor, and they have a simple life. Or perhaps, there are just a lot of secrets.
This story was layered so well. I loved the intricacies of the plot. The storyline flowed well, and the pacing was fantastic.
Steph was such a great character. You like her right away. She is a good person. She has been through some awful things, but she is still kind and soft. Oliver was mysterious and controlling. I didn’t like him from the jump.
The way this story unfolded was so twisted. The way the plot points were coordinated was smart. You don’t expect the twists, and when they come at you, you’re left speechless.
Ella Lynch was brilliant in bringing this book to life. She has such a gift with how she separates each character, giving them their own identity. Her voice is magic.
I enjoyed this story from start to finish. It was fast-paced but not rushed. The detail was excellent, and the devious elements were delicious.
