I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

J.S. Ellis is the author of psychological thrillers and suspense and published her debut psychological thriller in 2019, which was an instant success and received great praise from readers. She writes stories about obsession and betrayal. When she’s not putting her characters in uncomfortable, difficult positions, J.S. Ellis likes to relax with her husband and their fur baby, Eloise. They live on the sunny island of Malta.

I have aided in the capture of a serial killer, which is made even more impressive by the fact that I… am a cat.

Happily settled in with Jane, a would-be victim I helped to save, I thought my days as an amateur sleuth would be traded for belly rubs and sunbeam naps.

Until I watched the man in the apartment complex opposite ours, murder his wife. Once again, it falls to me to help the bumbling humans bring a killer to justice.

Step one is proving to Jane that something horrible happened.

But how do I convince her a crime occurred in the dark of the night? More importantly, how can I prevent her from becoming his next target?

See, I told you something was off.“

Jane and Theo have moved on with their lives, mostly since Theo saved Jane. Now, Jane is struggling to put herself out there, and Theo is always close by. When Theo sees something, he knows he has to make Jane understand, and they both have to survive.

The imagery in the book was fantastic. The way the windows of the various apartments are compared to television or scrolling social media is very relevant.

I love Theo so much. And his affection for his human, Jane. I was unsure what to make of Timon, but he was a great character.

This is a quick and easy read, with a plot that moves swiftly and will keep you engaged. I liked the alternating perspectives, and I still find using a cat as a main character a stroke of genius.

I hope there is more to this series!
