Deanna Raybourn is the New York Times bestselling author of the Edgar Award–nominated Veronica Speedwell Mysteries, as well as the Lady Julia Grey series and several stand-alone works.

When the foursome is sent on an all-expenses paid vacation to mark their retirement, they are targeted by one of their own. Only the Board, the top-level members of the Museum, can order the termination of field agents, and the women realize they’ve been marked for death.
Now to get out alive they have to turn against their own organization, relying on experience and each other to get the job done, knowing that working together is the secret to their survival. They’re about to teach the Board what it really means to be a woman—and a killer—of a certain age.
“…your lives are lies now, but the fewer you tell, the simpler it is to keep them straight.”
Billie, Mary Ellen, Helen, and Natalie have worked for a secret organization for 40 years. They have accomplished incredible and deadly things together. Taking a retirement cruise should have been a calm celebration of their lives finally slowing down- until they realize they aren’t alone.
This was such a fantastic book. I enjoyed how the story was told, how it unfolded, and the characters.
I love the idea of these women being tough as nails and talented assassins. The plot of this book was so clever, and I loved the alternating storylines.
I loved the ladies; their dynamic, chemistry, skills, and friendship were beautiful. It was such a fun journey to take. The concept was so unique, and I enjoyed the humor mixed with the intensity. It kept things just right.
Both narrators were fantastic and brought these characters to life. The pacing was great, and I found the alternating timelines well done. This was such an entertaining audiobook, and I am excited to recommend it.
