I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily. Zoe Adams is an audacious author exploring the layered ups and downs of love. A passionate writer, she draws her inspiration from a variety of sources. Her admiration for romance books, her understanding of human character, and her observing eye for exciting scenarios are a few of them. But above all, her greatest writing gift is her bold, unapologetic love for love itself.

Danielle is in San Francisco caring for her dying mother when she receives a call from her boss and ex-boyfriend Kenneth. He doesn’t care about her loss and instead asks her to return to work immediately. A corporation has just purchased the restaurant management company they both work for, and he needs her help. Danny is deep in debt from her mom’s hospital bills and has no choice. She goes back to Miami even though she is very sad and not fit to work yet.

She is assigned to help an up-and-coming Peruvian chef set up a new restaurant in the city. Andy Kishi is arrogant but talented, and Danny soon discovers they make a good team. The chemistry between them is palpable, but she’s not sure she is ready for a new relationship. Ken becomes jealous of them, and she is caught up between two alpha males who are not fighting over her but over their hurt pride.

Will one of them rise to the occasion and give Danny what she expects from love?

“No matter what you give a man, you have to make sure he gives you something in return.”

Danny just lost her mom, and her boss slash ex-boyfriend is being a monumental jerk. When a new chef arrives, Danny expects things to be business as usual. Then they get stuck on an elevator.

This was a bittersweet story. Starting with the death of a beloved parent is always sad. And I felt Danny’s grief as she tried to keep moving forward.

Andy was a great balance to the story, and I liked that he listened to Danny. He understood her vision, and he realized she had value.

This was a charming ending to this series. I liked how Zoe tied the other stories into this one, wrapping things up nicely.
