I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

K.L. Slater is the number one bestselling author of nineteen psychological crime thrillers. She has sold over two million copies of her books worldwide. She has also written four Carnegie-nominated Young Adult novels as Kim Slater for Macmillan Children’s Books. Kim has an MA in Creative Writing and lives with her husband in a small Nottinghamshire village.

Being a single mother is tough, but I’d do anything for my little girl Scarlet. I’d given up on my career as a voice actor when the call came, but suddenly I was the new narrator for a secret book from bestselling author Philippa Roberts, who has been missing for eight months. It was a lifeline for me and my daughter.

I hated that it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex in his perfect new home with his perfect new girlfriend. But I knew it was the right thing to do.

But as I start reading Philippa’s new novel, I start to wonder if it’s no coincidence that I’ve been chosen to narrate it. There’s something hidden in the pages of this book, I’m sure of it. Some clue to Philippa’s disappearance. And I don’t feel safe. I think I’m being watched. My room has been searched.

And then my ex’s girlfriend calls in tears and everything starts to click together. If I don’t find answers fast, I’ll lose more than my second chance. I’ll lose my daughter.

“The time had come to risk everything.”

Eve is trying to get her life back in order. After losing her dad, her husband having an affair and ending their marriage, and the author she worked with disappearing, Eve shut down. She moved back home and was trying to figure things out. Now that she is getting another opportunity with her career, she wants to take it seriously. When things start coming to light, Eve finds herself in a deadly situation, and she may have to take these secrets to her grave.

HOLY BUCKETS. This book was fantastic. The way this story is told is brilliant. The deceit and the twists were incredible.

I liked Eve; she was strong. She was brave, and she was loyal. She was relentless in finding the truth, and boy, howdy- she was not taking the unknown as an answer.

The alternating narrators in this book were so well done. When the final reveal came, I was so shocked I just stared at my phone for a few minutes. The last several chapters in this book will slap you in the face.

I love how K.L. Slater sets a scene and how she spins the story. The character development was excellent, and you will be shocked by the truth.

This was a fast-paced thriller that I found impossible to put down. It was very cool having the plot of this book intertwined with the publishing world. Having that little peek behind the publishing curtain was very neat, and seeing how fans can be assets or nuisances, was very cool.

If you want a book that will consume you from start to finish, look no further.
