Sarah Morrell is an award-winning author of children’s books who loves to share stories and bring characters to life in a fun way. She also runs literacy workshops for nurseries, schools, and libraries.

“Don’t fill your mind with ‘what ifs.’ They only distract you from what’s here.”

Ten-year-old Fleur is quite content with how things are; she has two best friends at school, a doting and sassy nan, and a loving and supporting mum. Not even her nans irritating African grey parrot can hold her down. Until a new student arrives and decides Fleur is weird. Now, Fleur must find a way to handle being bullied and deal with the other happenings around her small town.

This was a charming story. I enjoyed meeting Fleur. This is such a perfect book for middle school children! There is humor, relatable experiences, and a little bit of magic.

I loved Fleur’s relationship with her nan. It was such a special bond, and I found it well represented. The characters were all well developed for a children’s novel.

The plot flowed smoothly, and the story remained engaging through the end. I enjoyed this realm and the possibility of a series coming from this storyline.

Well written, well defined, and with memorable characters, this was a spellbinding win for me—a charming story, delivered genuinely, with lessons and values along the way.

But I am forever team Macaw.
