Colleen Hoover is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of several novels, including the bestselling women’s fiction novel It Ends with Us and the bestselling psychological thriller Verity. She won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance three years in a row—for Confess (2015), It Ends with Us (2016), and Without Merit (2017). Confess was adapted into a seven-episode online series. In 2015, Hoover and her family founded The Bookworm Box, a bookstore and monthly subscription service offering signed novels donated by authors. All profits are given to various charities each month to help those in need. Hoover lives in Texas with her husband and their three boys.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.
“Carpe Diem.”
Kenna has spent the last five years in prison, and now that she is out, the only thing she wants to do is connect with her daughter. The child she has never held. Ledger is immediately intrigued when a stranger walks into his bar. She’s beautiful, but there is something more to her, and he needs to figure it out. When he does- he isn’t sure he can handle the truth.
Sigh. This was such a beautiful story. I loved the plot of the characters, and there is just something so endearing and charming about the characters Colleen creates.
Kenna is such a raw, vulnerable, genuine, kind character. She has so much self-awareness and honesty about her. I was captivated that she never pitied herself. She never screamed “why me” or “enough.” She was like a sponge, willing to absorb every ounce of hurt and chaos that was thrust her way.
Ledger was such a perfect character. He had so much consideration, charisma, passion, and genuine love in his heart. He was willing to see things from another perspective when no one else would have. He worked hard to create a life to be proud of. He has spent every spare second loving a little girl simply because she was his best friend’s child.
Everything about this story was beautiful. I loved the themes—especially the aspect that our loved ones who have passed are still with us every single day. The relevance with this hit me right between the eyes.
I enjoyed the fact that the most unsuspecting character was the one who did something so horrendous and the arc their story took. There was a lot to be said regarding forgiveness, redemption, and moving forward.
This was a beautiful story, with captivating characters and a heartbreakingly perfect storyline. An absolute must-read!
