This was my Book of the Month selection for February 2020.
Greer Hendricks is the coauthor of the New York Times bestseller The Wife Between Us, An Anonymous Girl, and You Are Not Alone. Prior to becoming a novelist, she spent over two decades as an editor at Simon & Schuster. She obtained her master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, and her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Allure, and Publishers Weekly. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and two children.
Sarah Pekkenan is the internationally and USA Today bestselling author of several novels, including The Wife Between Us, The Perfect Neighbors, and The Best of Us. A former investigative journalist and feature writer, her work has been published in The Washington Post, USA Today, and many others.

“All my work was fruitless.”
Shay lives with her best friend, who she secretly loves, and collects data for fun. Something people don’t see when they look at Shay is her loneliness. As Shay is about to board the Subway one afternoon, she witnesses something terrible, and it starts a chain of events that will change Shay’s life forever unless history repeats itself.
I adore Greer and Sarah so much. They deliver every single time- and this novel is no different. The characters were so well done. The detail that went into developing each and making them leap from the pages is so evident.
Shay was such a relatable character in so many ways. I think we can all identify with her loneliness and deserve to feel like she belongs. To feel special, seen, included. The vulnerability within this character is so beautifully done.
I enjoyed that the pacing of this book was unpredictable. You never knew when a drop-off was coming, but they will get you each time! I did not see the big twist coming- that made my jaw drop.
The last half of this novel is so intense, and it’s impossible to put down. A refreshing spin on adult friendships and a clever way of incorporating data, this book will make you second guess making new friends.
