Margo is invisible in her life. Her mom doesn’t see her. Her neighbors don’t see her. No one sees her. And she kind of likes it that way. Margo is intelligent, shy, and kind. She has deep thoughts. Strong feelings. And no self-esteem. But as she gets older, a lot of things change. Her body changes due to walking everywhere. Her confidence grows due to her friendship with Judah- a neighbor. As things continue getting better and brighter for Margo, she suddenly gets a solid dose of dark reality. And dark reality could turn out to be deadly.

This was a twisted ride from page one. I enjoyed the build-up and the character development, even if most of the characters were terrible people.

I loved the connection Margo had with Judah. I think it was beautiful and poetic and that they each gave the other something they needed.

I liked Margo, even when she didn’t like herself. Her journey to self-discovery was pretty intense, and at times uncomfortable. But she was also authentic.

Something I enjoy about Tarry Fisher’s work is that she is not afraid to write the bitter, broken, ugly side of life. She doesn’t wrap everything in a neat bow and seal it with a happy ending.

Tarryn delivers the rough and raw reality of the world. Sometimes it is beautiful, and sometimes it is hideous. But no matter which way the wind blows, you can expect a twist you never expected and a harsh dose of reality.

Fiction can be fun. And reality can be deadly. Somewhere in the middle is a beautiful peace. It fades quickly.
