Colleen Hoover is a delightful author who brings love, hurt, trial, and triumph to life with her words. She writes beautiful stories that will make you think, make you cry, and make you keep coming back for more. She has published over 15 addictive works and has an active presence on social media.

“I want her so much I’ll be the Romeo to her Juliet and take whatever the hell kind of poison she wants to put on my tongue right now.”

Leeds is a musician who doesn’t know if he has what it takes to step into the spotlight on his own, so he joins a band and sits comfortably in the shadow. Until a gig playing a wedding introduces him to Layla. She’s a terrible dancer, but a free spirit. They connect on a level neither can explain and are almost immediately in love. The only problem is Leed’s ex-girlfriend, Sable, isn’t ready to let him go. And she isn’t afraid to go after what she wants.

This book is a modern retelling of the moving Ghost. It’s spooky, it’s sweet, it’s dangerous, and it’s a love story where love may not conquer all.

I enjoyed how this story was told, and I enjoyed the characters. It is an exciting perspective. Colleen described this book as a mix between Verity and her romance novels, and I have to agree.

This story has all of the suspense that Verity contained, including a twist that will leave you speechless, but it has the sweetness and the grit of Ugly Love.

This is not an ordinary Colleen Hoover novel, and I appreciate that she stepped so far out of her ordinary for this one. I am generally not a paranormal reader. It’s just not my scene. But the way this was written is so beautiful that you almost don’t think about the supernatural in a typical way.

I loved how this story unfolded; I love how Leeds told this story and how the interview was woven in. This story has it all, a larger than life love, a couple willing to fight until the death to overcome a hurdle, and so many feelings.

I like Leeds as a character. It’s not unusual for Colleen Hoover’s characters to be well written. But I feel like Hoover put a little bit extra writer’s oomph into Leeds and Layla.

This is an unconventional love story. It takes you on a path that we have never taken as a CoHort, and it is so well done. Colleen has a Midas touch, and this book is gold. This story is bizarre and wonderful and funny and sad and scary. You will find yourself cheering for happily ever after, and then you will find yourself picking your jaw up from the floor. The twists in this book are delivered so subtly.

This is a must-read. Fact paced, beautifully written, and just scary enough that you might just question everything.
