I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

S.A. Thomas has always had a passion for writing. She started writing short stories at a young age and always dreamed of writing a novel. Her debut novel, Number One Fan, received excellent reviews, so she continued her passion with her second novel, Dark Souls.

“The truth was, she wanted that baby.”

Jana and Vince are a successful, young couple living together and focusing on the future. Jana is hardworking and smart, and she’s positive Vince is the love of her life. Vince comes from a big family, that while tight-knit, has secrets. As blasts from the past start coming forward to unravel the future, Jana realizes Vince is missing. He was supposed to be out with the boys, but he never made it home. As she starts the search for him, she finds more than she bargained for. When the truth comes out, will anyone survive the blast?

For her second novel, S.A. Thomas branched out. Her story is well developed and intense. Her characters are well-formed and have interesting backstories. The plot is twisted and dark. The hook is well placed, and the story grabs your attention right away.

I enjoyed how this story unfolded. I enjoyed the back and forth in storytelling, and the way it all came together was well done. The plot was well constructed. S.A. Thomas has improved a lot in this second book, which leads me to believe she will only get better and better.

As secrets and the past get untangled in this sordid tale, we find the truth wrapped in the middle somewhere. With characters, you become quickly invested in and a future we can’t be sure will happen, who is telling the truth?

Jana has her work cut out for her. She has to try and make sense out of so much history and so many secrets, and to top it off, and she has no idea that Leo is in love with her. And she doesn’t know just how involved Leo is with everything.

I enjoyed this book. I would have liked a bit more explanation into Zack and more insight into why he was as moody as he is, but overall this is a worthy read. The elements are all there, and when everything comes together, you are left completely shocked. I did not see the ending of this one coming… beware. You are in for a ride.
