A Side of Murder by Amy Pershing

A Side of Murder by Amy Pershing
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. Thank you to Ms. Pershing and her publishing team for the opportunity.
Amy Pershing has been a lifelong wordsmith. She had precious worked as an editor, journalist, and restaurant reviewer. She worked in the financial industry, and once she was able to pay off her school loans decided to pursue her passion for writing full time. Collaborating all of her knowledge, experience, talent, and passion, Amy Pershing has brought A Side of Murder to life.

“You’re charming and hot,” I’d shot back. “I’m goofy and look like Big Bird.”
This was my first Amy Pershing book, and honestly, the first thing that caught my attention was the dog on the cover, then I read the description and knew I had to read and review it. Luckily, my ARC request was approved.
Samantha returns home after her aunt passed away, with the intent of fixing up the house she inherited. Her plan is derailed almost immediately when old friends start making decisions on Samantha’s behalf, an old crush comes crashing back into her life, and she is given the task of writing food reviews for the local paper. On top of being given a large puppy, a nosy neighbor, and murder, she aims to figure out the real question: will Samantha survive coming home?
Samantha is tall, really tall. Stand out in the crowd without trying, tall. And she is a gifted chef. She has had a run of bad luck with her recent marriage resulting in a fight that went viral on YouTube. In the hope of escaping her life’s chaos in the city, Sam decided to return home to settle her great aunt’s estate. Little does she know, her childhood friends aren’t the only ones waiting for her arrival.
Samantha is our narrator in this book, and she is such a realistic character. Her inner dialogue is equal parts precious and comical. Samantha returns home after an embarrassing fight with her then-husband escalated to a viral video on YouTube, to try and figure out her next move.
Smart, confused, kind, and sweetly innocent, Sam tries to be what everyone expects her to be. This book is an easy read, with well-developed characters and a devious plot. The scenery is deceived so beautifully; you can almost feel the sand between your toes and the sound of the waves crashing upon the shore.
In a real-life game of Clue, Samantha must try to solve a murder before she ends up the next victim. With more twists than Gemelli, this story will grab your attention and your heart.
